    Agricultural Residue Reinforced Biocomposite

    About This Product

This is a biodegradable biocomposite: a PLA/PBAT matrix reinforced with pineapple leaf fibre, supplied as a pellet compound. The fibre is cellulosic, an agricultural residue left behind when the fruit is harvested, and it is dispersed through the polymer melt during compounding, so the pellet arrives as a two-phase material rather than as a blend to be made on your own line. As a compounded blend it carries no single CAS number, and it is biodegradable at end of life.

For a buyer sourcing renewable content the first question is where that content comes from. Pineapple leaf is a by-product of fruit harvesting, normally burned in the field or left to decompose, so this draws on a side stream that already exists rather than on a crop grown for the purpose, and the residue becomes a functional input rather than a disposal problem. The second question is what the renewable fraction costs in properties, and this is an unusually good case. A bio-based filler normally dilutes the polymer around it, so renewable content is bought at the price of performance; cellulose fibre is considerably stiffer than the polyester matrix and takes a disproportionate share of any load passed into it, which makes it a reinforcement rather than a filler. Stiffness and strength therefore rise above the unfilled polymer at the same time as renewable content, rather than one being traded for the other. The competing consideration is that cellulose is polar and hygroscopic where the matrix is not. Natural fibre changes how the compound behaves on the line: it takes up moisture and alters flow, so drying and processing conditions differ from unfilled grades and should be reviewed before a first trial. Supplied as a raw material for processing on your own line. We do not produce finished articles.

It is used in structural biocomposite parts, bio-based composites, agricultural residue valorisation and renewable material sourcing.

Bio Green Oleo supplies the agricultural residue reinforced biocomposite to specification on matrix polymer ratio, fibre content, moisture content and pellet form.
