    Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil – Oleochemical Feedstocks product from Bio Green Oleo

    About This Product

Jojoba oil is expressed from the seed of Simmondsia chinensis, a desert shrub of the American southwest. It carries CAS number 61789-91-1 and the INCI name Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, and is supplied as a clear golden liquid in unrefined form or colourless and odourless when refined.

Its defining feature is chemical. Almost every other plant oil is a triglyceride, three fatty acids attached to a glycerol backbone. Jojoba contains essentially no glycerides at all: it is made up of long straight-chain wax esters, a fatty acid joined directly to a fatty alcohol, with both chains typically twenty or twenty-two carbons long. Because there is no glycerol backbone to hydrolyse and only one double bond per chain, the material is remarkably stable. It does not go rancid on the timescale that vegetable oils do and tolerates repeated heating without polymerising, which is why it needs no antioxidant and carries a shelf life measured in years. Its structure is also close to that of human sebum, which is the basis of its long-standing use in skin and hair care, and it was adopted as the direct replacement for sperm whale oil.

It is used in skin care, hair and scalp products, colour cosmetics, massage and bath oils, pharmaceutical carriers, and as a high-stability lubricant.

Bio Green Oleo supplies refined and unrefined jojoba oil to specification on acid value, iodine value, saponification value, moisture, colour and refractive index.
