About This Product
Gum rosin is produced by tapping pine trees of the Pinaceae family for their oleoresin, which is then refined into a solid resin. Its principal constituents are resin acids of the formula C19H29COOH. The specification, covering colour grade, softening point, acid value and unsaponifiable content, is confirmed on enquiry because no grade values are given here.
Rosin serves as a tackifier and binder in adhesive manufacture, and it is used for sizing paper, in printing inks, in rubber compounding and in paint and coating formulations. It is also a starting material for further chemical processing.
Specify the colour grade and the softening point and acid value limits your process needs, and ask for a lot certificate of analysis. Rosin (colophony) is classified as a skin sensitiser under GB and EU CLP; its SDS gives the handling and labelling that follow from this.
