About This Product
The extra virgin grade is a soy methyl ester (CAS 68919-53-9) that appears as a clear yellow liquid at 25 °C. Its certificate of analysis records an iodine value of 135 g I₂/100 g, a saponification value of 192 mg KOH/g, an acid value of 0.5 mg KOH/g max and a Gardner colour of 2. Density at 25 °C is 0.88 g/ml, viscosity at 25 °C is 5.55 cP, the pour point is -3 °C and the PMCC flash point lies above 94 °C.
Methyl esters of this kind are commonly evaluated as bio-based solvents and carriers, for example in cleaning and degreasing products, ink and coating clean-up, release agents and formulated fluids. The certificate reports an RVOC content of 0% by the U.S. EPA method, a point of interest where solvent emissions are controlled. How the ester performs in a particular formulation has to be proven by trials.
The certificate states neither test methods nor packaging, so settle both, together with the limits for the lot on offer, ahead of any order. Obtain an up-to-date SDS, the grade specification and that lot's certificate, and confirm that this grade fits the intended application and any regulatory requirements.
