Palm Kernel Fatty Acid Distillate (PKFAD)

Palm Kernel Fatty Acid Distillate (PKFAD) – Fatty Acids & Distillates product from Bio Green Oleo

    About This Product

Palm kernel fatty acid distillate is recovered under vacuum during the deodorisation of palm kernel oil, where steam stripping removes free fatty acids and volatiles from the refined oil. It is a by-product of that refining step, supplied as a pale to brown solid or semi-solid with a characteristic odour.

What separates PKFAD from the more widely traded PFAD is chain length, and it changes what the material is good for. PFAD comes from palm oil and is dominated by sixteen and eighteen carbon acids; PKFAD comes from the kernel and carries the lauric and myristic chains of palm kernel oil, concentrated to a free fatty acid content typically above 80 percent. Those shorter chains are exactly the ones that foaming surfactant chemistry needs, so PKFAD is a low-cost entry point to lauric derivatives rather than a general-purpose acid oil. It melts lower than PFAD and has a higher saponification value because shorter chains mean more carboxyl groups per tonne. Composition varies with the refining source, so it is always bought against an analysed lot rather than a nominal specification.

It is used for lauric fatty acid recovery and fractionation, soap and laundry bar production, surfactant and alkanolamide intermediates, biodiesel esterification and animal feed energy.

Bio Green Oleo supplies PKFAD to specification on free fatty acid, chain length distribution, moisture and impurities, iodine value and colour.
