About This Product
Stearic acid 1838 is a triple-pressed material in which C18 chains make up 35.0–41.0% of the total and palmitic acid accounts for most of the remainder. Colour is limited to 60 Hazen and iodine value to 1.0 g I₂/100 g. Acid value sits in the 205.0–212.0 mg KOH/g window, saponification value at 206.0–213.0 mg KOH/g, and the melting range is 53.0–57.0 °C. In water the acid is insoluble; in ethanol it is only slightly soluble.
With palmitic acid in the majority, this grade gives a softer solid than the C18-rich grades, while its low iodine value helps it keep its colour and resist odour development. Candle manufacture is an established use, alongside PVC lubricant and stabiliser systems, rubber processing, textile and paper applications, and the production of metallic stearates.
The 1838 designation covers more than one documented specification, one defined by melting point as here and another by titre, so state the complete option needed and avoid combining limits from different sheets. Agree whether the material comes in jumbo bags or 25 kg bags, review the safety data sheet and each lot’s analysis certificate, and test the grade in the intended formulation before committing to supply.

Confirm the evidence before ordering
Grade, origin and certification are confirmed for each proposed source. A vegetable-derived feedstock is not automatically certified sustainable, pharmaceutical grade or suitable for every application; request the evidence needed for your intended use.
