    Rapeseed Acid Oil

Rapeseed Acid Oil – Fatty Acids & Distillates product from Bio Green Oleo

    About This Product

Rapeseed acid oil is recovered from soapstock, the alkaline sludge separated during the chemical refining of crude rapeseed oil. Treating that soapstock with sulphuric acid splits the soaps back into free fatty acids, which separate as an oily layer and are drawn off. It is a dark, variable liquid with a characteristic odour, and is a by-product of refining rather than a manufactured grade.

Its composition follows the parent oil, so it is dominated by oleic acid with significant linoleic and alpha-linolenic fractions, giving a high iodine value and pronounced unsaturation. That unsaturation cuts both ways. It keeps the material liquid and easy to pump without heating, and it provides reactive sites for epoxidation, dimerisation and sulphonation. It also makes the acid oil prone to oxidation, colour development and odour on storage, and means the product cannot be held indefinitely. Because it derives from a waste stream, free fatty acid content, moisture, impurities and residual sulphate vary significantly between lots, so it is bought against an analysis of the actual parcel rather than a nominal specification.

It is used for fatty acid recovery and splitting, industrial and laundry soap, biodiesel esterification, animal feed energy, and as feedstock for oilfield and mining chemicals.

Bio Green Oleo supplies rapeseed acid oil to specification on free fatty acid, moisture and impurities, iodine value, unsaponifiable matter and residual sulphate.
