Myristic Acid – Fatty Acids & Distillates product from Bio Green Oleo

    About This Product

Myristic acid is a straight-chain saturated fatty acid with fourteen carbon atoms, formula C14H28O2, and CAS number 544-63-8. Its systematic name is tetradecanoic acid, and the common name comes from Myristica fragrans, the nutmeg tree, in whose butter it was first identified. Commercially it is recovered by splitting and fractionating coconut or palm kernel oil, and it is supplied as white flakes, powder or beads melting at about 54 degrees Celsius.

At fourteen carbons it sits directly between the fast-foaming lauric chain and the dense, stable palmitic and stearic chains, and its behaviour reflects that position. Where a lauric soap gives an immediate but loose and short-lived lather, a myristic soap gives a finer, creamier and noticeably more persistent foam. Formulators exploit this deliberately, blending lauric and myristic chains to get both quick lather generation and lather that survives the wash. The acid is also readily esterified, and its esters are among the most widely used cosmetic emollients.

It is used in soap and syndet bar manufacture, shaving creams and foaming cleansers, in the production of isopropyl myristate and other emollient esters, in cosmetic emulsifiers, metal soaps, plastics lubricants and flavour esters.

Bio Green Oleo supplies myristic acid to specification on assay, chain length distribution, titre, iodine value, acid and saponification value, colour and moisture.
